Eating Out With a Lap Band
When you are going out to a restaurant after getting the lap band there are some guidelines you should follow that will make you more successful with your weight loss.
- Read the menu carefully. Be on the lookout for fried or breaded foods. Instead order broiled or steamed or roasted foods when possible. Remember the waiter is there to help you. Don’t be afraid to ask how things are prepared or to make a special request.
- Many restaurants now have lite menus which feature foods that aren’t as rich. These foods should be your first choice.
- If you like soups try to stay away from the heavier kinds such as clam chowder or other rich soups.
- Eat like a kid - portion wise that is. Many times the kids menu has a good selection of foods that will more than fill you up.
- If you do end up ordering a typical oversized entree, plan on taking half home and request the box right away. Requesting it right away will cement your intent. You’ll feel silly with the box at the end of the meal if you have nothing to put in it.
- If you want a dessert? Offer to split one with someone at the table.
- If you are a drinker. Wine is a healthier choice than mixed drinks many of which may have sugary mixes.
