All About Lap Band

Mexico Lap Band

A lot of people are turning to Mexico for lap band procedures due to the cost savings compared to the same surgery in the United States. Usually the cost of lap band in Mexico will be about half of what it is in the US.

Because of the potential savings of having the surgery in Mexico more and more people are considering and having the lap band operation performed there. Some people may have questions or concerns about getting medical care in Mexico. From what I've heard from others for the most part, these concerns are unfounded. You'll find top notch care in Mexico at lower prices than in the U.S. As with anything though, it's buyer beware and you need to do your research ahead of time.

If you are going to have lap band in Mexico, here is a quick list of things to bring I received from a fellow bander. Several items you will want to bring to make your stay more comfortable.

  • Bouillon cubes to make broth in your room
  • Dresses or very, very loose pants
  • Tea Bags * Protein Packets (Special K)
  • Propel single serving packs
  • Phazyme (absolutely wouldn't go without this)
  • Children's Meltaway Tylenol. The pain killers they give you only last a short while and you may want more.
  • I also took Liquid Tylenol pm. It really helped me sleep well as the hotel isn't always the quietest.
  • Gas-x Strips that melt on tongue

They have a little coffee pot and I would use it to heat water and make tea or broth from it. they do have broth in the dining room but it is really expensive and you can only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of it so it gets wasted. small bills 1's and 5's. They give you change in pesos if you use bigger bills and then you have to find a way to spend it. There is a little convenience store across from the hotel and the popsicles they carried were a life saver for me.

Another reader wrote me with this account... "I had a lap band done in monteray mex on April 28th. The doctor was good, the hospital clean. HOWEVER very little english spoken in the hospital itself and had a hard time communicating. outside the surgury itself, which was great, the organization of the various people inside and outside the docs office who coordinate your complete stay was sadly lacking. The complete experience was stressful. be ready to deal with customs, small planes, delayed flights, connecting flights (I had to literaly run to get my connecting flight home after spending 40 minutes in a customs line)and even then, didnt make it. After surgury, a bit difficult. Make sure you check and double check all the details with the various places you are sent and the times. Some got upset that I wanted to know why things were so backward, but i boldly said this is my body and my money and I wanted these things straight. All in all, the whole experience had a 2 on a scale of 10. The surgury itself and the doctor get a 10. You have to weigh it all out. I paid cash and saved 10,000.00 over the US cost. But I gained a few grey hairs and a new wrinkle or 2 with the experience"
