Lap Band Forums
I had someone ask me the other day if there were any good forums for lap band. Why yes, yes there are. One of the best is the lap band talk forum and the lap band forum is also very good.
They are great places to meet and talk with others who have been banded. You won't find more true life information than from people who have experienced it first hand. I think that's why when I write about my experience with lap band erosion, people find it interesting and helpful.
The forums have widely divergent ideas and information. You'll hear stories of surgeons, good and bad, all first hand as well as get tips that work as far as diet, exercise and other things. You never know when you'll find a post that helps you. You'll even see posts on topics you might be afraid to ask about because you find it embarrassing. The forums are usually very supportive of people asking even embarrassing questions. We're all human and we all have things our bodies do that can be considered embarrassing, astounding, magnificent and wonderful. Sometimes the same thing can be described with all those words.
The human element is what is so nice about a forum. You can read all day long on stuffy medical lap band sites, but you won't find out many of the things you'll learn in half an hour on a forum reading what others have posted. No doubt that is why you'll see thousands of posts at some of these sites.
On the forums, simply treat others as you'd like to be treated and you'll make friends fast. Most people are in the same boat as you and realize that the more friends you have the more support you have. The other members are going through, or have gone through what you are experiencing and can provide a lot of help. Sometimes its a pat on the back or a kick in the pants, but it's always given with the best hopes and intentions for you.
Sign up at some of these sites and get your feet wet by posting. You can always choose a web name rather than your real name and I recommend that anyway as there are some people on the net that prey on others and the more info they have the easier it is. That's not the majority of people, but just wanted you to be aware that like any other part of society, the net has citizens that are not model citizens.
In many of these forums you can ask your question and get notified of responses via email, but I'd recommend that you take a more active role than that because your replies someday might help someone else that's new just as you are.
Now go out there and get the answers you need. Feel free to leave me comments on what kind of things you want to know about as well because I will use those in topics I write about on this site.
